Ikki68 Aurora is a gasket mounted board. The top and bottom case have a series of gaskets, and the plate sits between them. This way the plate doesn't make contact with the case, ensuring a nicer sound and a better typefeel.
The Aurora bottom case has 10 gasket chips that are completely removeable.
A
, B
and C
chips are located in the back of the board. They have 2 gasket strips on each.
D
, E
and F
chips are located in the front of the board. They also have 2 gasket strips on each.
W
to Z
chips are located on the sides and have a single gasket strip on each.
You can use however many gasket chips you want for a softer or a firmer typing experience. We encourage you to try many different combos to see what you like.
You risk damaging the case if you choose to remove a lot of the gasket chips and/or have long distances between gasket chips.
The USB port is fixed on all PCBs. The Aurora can flex a lot ff you take away a lot of the gasket chips and remove the bottom dampening foam. If you're a heavy handed typer, we advise against such a configuration as it can put a lot of stress on the USB port to the point of failure. Such damage is not covered under warranty.
Top case has the same amount of mounting points. It's okay if your top case has PORON gaskets installed in slots where they are not in the corresponding spots in the bottom case, if you have the chip removed.
Please make sure the top case has gaskets installed in the same position as the bottom case.
The gaskets rest on a narrow base in the top case. Please be extra careful when installing PORON gaskets on the top case.
Each gasket chip has one or two cavities to fit gasket strips. Each Aurora comes with a set of Silicone and a set of PORON gasket strips.
If you use a chip that is meant to hold two gasket strips (
A
throughF
), you must use both strips to avoid damaging your case.
Use only one type of gaskets. Either all PORON or all silicone. DO NOT mix and match.
Silicone gaskets stips are friction fit. You just push it into the cavity.
PORON gasket strips have adhesives on the back. They are narrow and small, so be careful when putting them on.
)
We recommend taking the chip off and applying PORON gaskets with the help of a something narrow and small like the tip of a flat head screw driver
The gaskets are secured in place through slots, tabs and pins. Please be extra careful when removing and replacing gaskets.
